Hazelwood, MO (KSDK) - A coyote is being blamed for the violent death of a small dog in Hazelwood.
The reported attack happened Sunday morning in the 1300 block of Eagles Way Court. Coyotes aren't uncommon there, or in other populated areas this time of year.
A spokesperson from the Missouri Department of Conservation tells us they haven't been able to confirm that it was a coyote attack because they weren't able to examine the dead dog.
Still, the news worries people on the street.
"Having a small dog and children coming around, it's a concern. I have seen one already on the deck of the neighbor next door. They seem to run away if you holler at it or throw a rock at it or something," said Tom Lindzy.
The Department of Conservation says coyotes are not typically aggressive, but the most dangerous time of the day for pets would be at night.
