Washington Park, IL (KSDK) - The Illinois State Police is helping the Washington Park Police Department investigate the murder a man found dead in a local residence Wednesday afternoon.
According to Lieutenant Dave Wasmuth, spokesman for the Illinois State Police, the victim's family contacted Washington Park police around 5:30 p.m. to ask them to check on the well-being of a 48-year-old relative who lived in the 2200 block of North 52nd Street.
When police entered the home, they discovered the body of a 48-year-old man, but could not immediately determine the person's identity. The person had been dead for several days, Wasmuth said.
An autopsy will be conducted Thursday to determine the man's identity and exact cause of death, though police suspect the man was murdered.
