St. Louis (KSDK) - All aboard the Snowball Express!

Dozens of kids and their families left Lambert-St. Louis International Airport Friday for an all-expenses paid trip to the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

American Airlines sponsors the Snowball Express, which sets out to bring happy memories to children who have lost a parent in active military duty.

Approximately 1,700 family members will make the trip between now and Tuesday.

American and American Eagle donate nine chartered planes for families from 54 cities and United States territories.

For the kids, it's all about fun and friends.

"It's really fun. We do a bunch of activities and there's like little clubs at night that we go to and they make, it's really fun. And we just hang out and see our friends that we see a couple times a year," said Serena Kisseloff.

Once in Dallas, families are treated to a parade, a trip to Six Flags, a private concert by actor Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band and much, much more.
