St. Louis (KSDK) - It was the final roll call Tuesday for St. Louis Police Chief Dan Isom.
Isom served the department for 24 years, four of them as chief. He's retiring January 1, 2013 to take a teaching position at University of Missouri-St. Louis, where he earned a bachelor's degree, master's degree, and PhD in criminology and criminal justice.
On Tuesday, the department, the mayor and St. Louis County police thanked Chief Isom for his service.
County Police Chief Tim Fitch even brought him a present.
"What I have in this little satchel is a whole bunch of police goodies. If you're going to be working in the county you need county police stuff. There's hats and all kinds of stuff for you to wear when you come into the county," said Chief Fitch.
Chief Isom also received a humidor full of cigars with the police department logo on the outside.
His replacement has not been named, but he does have advice for the next chief: "eat right, get plenty of rest and surround yourself with good people."
