Cornish, NH (WMUR/CNN) - For a New Hampshire man, a hunting trip took an unexpected turn.
Everett Gray says he was in the woods near his home last week when he shot an eight-point buck, but the animal did not go down without a fight.
When Gray went to inspect his kill, he found the deer wasn't dead. He says it used its antlers to bore a four-inch hole in Gray's side.
"Picked me (up) off the ground and just slammed me back on the ground. It's just pounding into me. It's trying to wrench his head back and forth and pushing with his hind legs," said Gray.
He managed to free himself and get medical attention.
The antlers did not hit any organs and he is expected to be okay.
As for the deer, Gray is adding the animal to his collection, but says it will be his last. He's retiring from deer hunting.
