St. Louis (KSDK) - A man stole a car in north St. Louis Tuesday night with a baby inside and crashed just a few blocks later.
The mother of the child said her 1-year-old baby girl is doing just fine, but she on the other hand, was still upset about the situation.
The mother says she pulled up to the gas station at Interstate 70 and Shreve just after 6 p.m. and went in to grab just a few items, parking right in front of the store.
She admits that she did leave her child in the backseat of the car while inside the store.
The gas station's clerk says that within just about a minute or so the car was driving away and the mother ran out of the store. She started running behind the car and yelling at the driver, "My baby is in there!"
The driver of the stolen car then drove a few blocks but ended up crashing just two blocks away from the gas station. That suspect took off on foot and police are still searching for him.
The mother said she saw the suspect standing outside of the gas station when she pulled up, but didn't think anything of it.
