St. Louis, MO (KSDK) -   A north St. Louis man has been set to stand trial in April 2013 for the 2011 murder of a Vietnamese immigrant who was attacked in what has become known as the 'knockout game'.

20 year old Elex Levell Murphy is charged with first degree murder in the death of 72 year old Hoang Nquyen who was severely beaten by a group of teens, while walking home from a market with his wife in south St. Louis.

Along with the murder charge, Murphy is also facing assault and armed criminal action crimes in the attack.

Authorities say the victim and his wife were returning home around 10:30 a.m. on April 16, 2011, pushing their groceries through an alley when they were approached by a group of four teens.

Police say the couple was brutally attacked for no reason, and nothing was taken from the couple before the group fled the alley.

The victim and his wife moved to the St. Louis area to be closer to their two children and a grandchild according to family members.

If convicted of the crime, Murphy faces a life prison term with no chance of release.
