Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Illinois)
EAST ALTON, Ill. (KSDK) - Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) will hold a meeting on Monday with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and industry and local stakeholders to talk about the low level of the Mississippi River and the Corps' response.
The meeting will take place at 8:30 a.m. in East Alton, Illinois.
The Corps will talk about their plan to maintain navigation and answer questions.
Illinois Lt. Governor Sheila Simon will attend. Members of Illinois' congressional delegation were invited.
The meeting is closed to the public and press, though some participants will hold a news conference after.
The drought has caused the Mississippi River to drop to a historic low, which could close the river to navigation.
