ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - A section of the Mississippi River that was closed during the day will open full time next week.
Crews removing rock will take a break for the holiday. Barge traffic has been directed by the U.S. Coast Guard near Thebes, Ill. As U.S. Army Corps of Engineers workers remove rocks that pose a risk to navigation.
The area is closed between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., allowing traffic to pass only for eight hours.
The Corps has released water from Carlyle Lake, which along with recent rain, has improved the middle Mississippi River, causing the water level to rise.
