ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KSDK) - The year promises to go out with a bang as a winter storm moves into the bi-state region.

This morning, national weather service forecasters issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the entire area, as a powerful low pressure area moving out of the southwest United States brings yet another taste of winter to the region. Snow began falling just after 9 a.m. in the metro area.

In southwest Missouri, the storm brought reports of rain, snow, and freezing rain earlier Monday morning. MoDOT road condition maps showed partially covered roads in that part of the state.

Periods of snow with some rain and sleet will continue throughout the day. By this evening, with colder air pushing in, temperatures will drop and all precipitation will change over to snow. Between 1"-2" will fall for most areas, with isolated spots, especially northwest of St. Louis, picking up closer to 3". By tomorrow, mainly dry and much colder weather returns to the region.
