O'FALLON, Mo. (KSDK) - Charges have been filed against a Jennings man for an assault that occurred in O'Fallon, Missouri.

Frederick Tate, 31, has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, third-degree domestic assault, and second-degree property damage.

Police say Tate threw a woman's cell phone while she was driving him home.

The woman stopped at a gas station in the 1300 block of Highway M to call police. When she exited the vehicle, police say Tate lifted his shirt to display a handgun and said he doesn't like police.

The woman feared for her life and went into the gas station to call police.

Authorities say Tate followed the woman inside and took the phone away from an employee to prevent them from calling 911.

Police were notified anyway, and Tate fled on foot.

Nobody was seriously injured.

Police apprehended around 10 minutes later and a search was conducted to recover the weapon.

Tate is held on a $25,000 bond.
