DETROIT (WXYZ/CNN) - An elderly Michigan man is back in his final resting place after police say his son stole the man's corpse and put it in the freezer.

Since Monday, police had been tracking a vehicle, and just after 7 a.m. Tuesday, officers made their move.

"We rolled up on the vehicle, occupied two times. The gentlemen that were inside the vehicle. One of them matched the description of what we were looking for or who we were looking for," said Officer George Day.

They arrested a 48-year-old man who is believed to have taken his 93-year-old father's casket and remains from the Guesamene Cemetery on Monday.

In the van was a 38-year-old man who was also taken into police custody.

When investigators opened the back, "Found the casket in the back of the vehicle, noticed that the casket was empty."

Their search led them here to the son's house in the 4600 block of Eastlawn, and what they found gave neighbors the chills.

"Oooh, oh my God, that's something just unbelievable," said neighbor Terri Gaines.

Investigators located the body inside a freezer in the house. It is believed the son wanted to resurrect his father.

After funeral services were held on Saturday, the burial was supposed to happen Sunday.

Drenching rains prevented that from happening, and when cemetery workers arrived on Monday, the body was gone.

It was recovered unharmed.

The family declined to comment, saying they are still grieving their father, but acknowledged that he had lived a good, long life for 93 years.

The names of the suspects have not been released.

So far, they have not been charged and the incident is still under investigation.
