ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - The Missouri Department of Transportation will close part of I-64 this weekend to remove bridges.
Originally, I-64 was going to be shut down in both directions between Kingshighway and Sarah last weekend to remove the Taylor and Newstead overpasses.
The work was delayed by one week because precipitation was in the forecast, which would not allow crews to complete necessary restriping work to narrow and shift lanes.
The interstate will close between Hampton and Forest Park Parkway at 8 p.m. February 1. Lanes can now be expected to shift and narrow in both directions before the morning commute on Monday, February 4.
The Taylor and Newstead bridges will remain closed over the highway.
The removal of the bridges is part of an $18 million interchange reconstruction project at Tower Grove.
More information on upcoming work will be released on the project on MoDOT's website.
