ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will extend its rock removal project to Grand Tower, Illinois along the Mississippi River.

A firm contracted by the Corps' St. Louis District will perform the removal efforts on a six-mile stretch of the river beginning Tuesday evening.

The work will clear approximately 64 cubic yards of rock from the navigation channel

Removing the rock formations from the river is one of many operations the Corps has initiated to maintain a 9-foot-deep channel for river navigation.
