(KRDO/CNN) - A Colorado family claims thieves ransacked their home and walked off with an invaluable item, the remains of a loved one.
Last Tuesday, Stephanie Fisher and her kids came home to something suspicious.
"First thing I noticed when we got home was my dog was outside and I left her in the garage when I left," said Fischer.
The balcony door from her bedroom was also wide open
"It was surreal, it was like a denial thing too because this has never happened to me when I lived in Colorado Springs since 1988."
Fisher walked into her kitchen and noticed her things were out of place.
"All of our camera equipment, three cameras, one video camera, my kids Wii was taken, my laptop was taken," said Fischer.
Her laptop had years worth of family photographs. As she searched the rest of her home, she found an unwelcomed sight on the second floor.
"Our upstairs was completely trashed. Our gun safe was broken into and three weapons were stolen."
The thieves also stole jewelry, including a cross with the ashes of her husband's father.
"That means so much and he doesn't have very much of his dad," said Fischer.
Fisher says the crooks can keep the material stuff but she wants the cross and pictures back.
"It makes you angry and you feel so violated and unsafe and it's wrong. These people need to be caught."
Police have yet to make an arrest in the burglary.
