(KSDK Sports) -- The Blues still remain one of the top NHL teams so far in this shortened 2013 season, despite the shellacking they endured at Tuesday night against division rival Nashville. Tonight, the Blues will seek a bit of revenge, only this time against Detroit.
The Red Wings (4-4-1), have been looking for ways to put together a string of wins and remain relevant in the hunt for a playoff spot.
The Detroit Red Wings clearly miss the veteran presence of Nik Lidstrom, who retired before the season, and appeared a bit overmatched in what is now one of the toughest divisions in the league.
Tonight, they'll face Brian Elliott who will look to rebound after that terrible outing against the Predators.
The Blues boast plenty of offensive depth, great defending and a sound tandem in the crease but with the absence of Jaroslav Halak until at least the weekend the burden will fall on Brian Elliott who as mentioned was pasted in his last outing.
The Blues will need a much better defensive effort here tonight as they know how important these divisional battles are in the shortened season and against a dangerous team like Detroit you can be sure the Blues will be geared up here.
While Detroit may have been the team to beat in years past the power shift has occurred in the Central and this is St. Louis' division for the taking.
