(KSDK Sports) -- Greetings from Jupiter. Day 4 is a repeat of Day 3 so far.. WET!
11:25 EST: Workouts are underway around the complex on a cloudy day, but the rains have moved out. Some highlights we caught as we moved around the ball fields:
Oscar Taveras. He ranked number 10 on the USA Today "Players to Watch" list and he is the Cardinals number 1 prospect. Manager Mike Matheny calls him "special."
Rafael Furcal. One of the major storylines of the spring is Furcal's health. You may remember he hurt is elbow back on August 30 and missed the Cards' playoff run. Right now he his throwing easy. Expect him to progress slowly through to not aggravate his elbow.
Tradition: It is sort of tradition around Spring Training that former Cardinals make appearences in uniform, and "coach" the new and veteran players. Today we see Jim Edmonds and Willie McGee making the rounds. We saw Ozzie Smith in the airport last week, and he said he'll be here on Sunday.
10:20 EST: The rain appears to be moving out and the sun is trying to break through. The fields are wet, but the players are now heading out to begin stretching for the first full squad workout and the official, official begin of the Spring Training. Manager Mike Matheny is talking with the media right now, and we'll have that complete interview later this morning.
8:47 EST: Here are the pitching assignements for today.
Who is Throwing today:
Group 1: Wainwright, Kelly, Rondon.
Group 2: Lynn, Sanchez, Butler.
Group 3: Westbrook, Marte, Gast.
Group 4: Mujica, Salas, Browning, Cleto.
We are awaiting Mike Matheny to emerge from the clubhouse to give us our first press briefing of the day. We're expecting he'll talk about workout plans as well as what he said during his first closed meeting with the club this morning.
8:35 EST: Just received today's workout schedule, but only for the pitchers. Still waiting to hear what position players will be doing today. Possible rain affect in play here. We'll keep you posted.
8:20 EST: Clubhouse is open and it is filled to the brim with the entire team. Yesterday the position players joined the pitchers and catchers who reported on Monday. Today is to be the first full squad workout, but the weather is playing a factor.
Our first interview of the day is with Yadier Molina. (I'll post that video later this morning.)
Former Cardinal centerfielder Jim Edmonds is at camp. We'll try to get some time with him as well today.
