JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KSDK) - The Missouri Department of Transportation is reminding drivers to use caution, and avoid travel if possible over the next 24 hours.

Freezing rain, sleet, and snow will move into the area Thursday morning, and roads could become covered with snow and ice.

MoDOT has mobilized crews with trucks and equipment. Some workers went home Wednesday at 12 p.m. to prepare to go back on the clock at 12 a.m. At that point 12 hour rotating shifts will begin.

Crews will work around the clock to plow and treat roads, including interstates and U.S. Highways. They will also plow loose snow and treat hills, curves, and intersections of lettered and numbered routes.

Officials say drivers should avoid unnecessary travel. If you must be on the road, be sure to have a cell phone and winter supplies such as blankets, extra clothing, and food in case you become stranded.

If you become stranded, stay with your vehicle and call 911.
