ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Thursday's weather could also create power problems. So Ameren and other emergency responders are taking proactive measures to stay ahead of the storm.

"We are preparing for the worst and hoping for the best tomorrow," said Kevin Anders, Director of Technical Services with Ameren Missouri.

He says the preparations started a long time ago.

"We trim trees throughout the year to make sure that when a storm event like this occurs that we have the least amount of problems possible," said Anders.

Anders says about 700 workers will be on hand and ready to go.

"We will come in tomorrow ready to be deployed wherever most damage occurs in the system," said Anders.

St. Louis University supplies the latest weather conditions to Ameren Missouri on a regular basis. Based on their forecast, Ameren Missouri decided to deploy a mobile command center, and two storm trailers to St. Francis County, the area expected to be hardest hit.

The city of St. Louis activated their emergency operations center for the first time this winter and city leaders were meeting throughout the day to work on a plan.

"We're planning for the worst case scenario making sure that we know that the streets department is out treating the roads. That human services is reaching out to the functional needs population," said Gar Christman, the Commissioner of the St. Louis City Emergency Management Agency.

Chief Dennis Jenkerson says, the St. Louis Fire Department is also staying one step ahead of the storm.

"We've called additional firefighters and EMS personnel to bring them in should we need them," said Chief Jenkerson.

City officials want to remind you to check on your neighbors tomorrow and call 2-1-1 for all non-life threatening situations.

The city of St. Louis offers a service called Nixle. If you sign up you will get emergency notifications from the city. To get the notifications text STLCEMA to 888777.
