ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Charges filed against a north St. Louis man for shooting two St. Louis police officers.
Rico Martin, 44, has been charged with two counts of first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, two counts of armed criminal action, felon in possession of a firearm, and felony possession of a controlled substance.
Martin is accused of shooting two police officers Wednesday night after they responded to a house alarm in the 900 block of Elias Avenue.
A 31-year-old female officer was shot in the foot. She was taken to an area hospital where she was treated and then released.
A 26-year-old male officer was shot in the thigh. He was admitted to an area hospital overnight listed in stable condition.
The officers returned fire, striking Martin, who fled to the basement of the home.
Police say Martin was in possession of chunks of cocaine base, which was identified by the St. Louis Police Department Lab.
Martin pleaded guilty in August 2010 to three counts of first-degree statutory sodomy.
