(KSDK) -- Icy driving conditions in Illinois led to six deaths on Friday evening March 1st, including two 9-year old children.
The first accident occurred on Route 15 in Illinois, when the car containing the victims spun out of control, crossing the median from the Westbound lane into oncoming traffic in the Eastbound lane.
The out-of-control vehicle struck two other cars that were traveling Eastbound. The eighteen-year old passenger, JyieoshA DeWalt, was pronounced dead at the scene, and 26-year old driver died after being taken to a local hospital.
None of the passengers or drivers of the other cars were reported as injured.
The next accident happened in Nashville, Illinois, just minutes later. This crash killed a father and son. Derek Houle, 37, hit a patch of black Ice in Interstate 64 near mile marker 52 and got stuck in the median.
Houle, his 9 year old son, Journey, and 12 year old daughter got out of the car and were standing in the median when they were hit by another car that hit a patch of ice. Derek and Journey Houle died at the scene. The 12 year old is in serious condition.
The third accident happened in Belleville in the 7900 block of Old St. Louis Road, killing a father and son. Thomas S. Hutchison, 51, a resident of Belleville was pronounced dead at a local hospital. His son, Zachary Hutchison, 9, was pronounced dead at 9:17 p.m. at Memorial Hospital in Belleville.
