Shrewsbury, Mo. (KSDK) - St. Louis-area Catholics are excited to watch the Papal Conclave which starts Tuesday. Especially parishioners at Cure of Ars in Shrewsbury, a parish with a special connection to Timothy Cardinal Dolan.
Before becoming a Cardinal, Dolan served as an Associate Pastor at Cure of Ars in 1985.
While he's been gone for years, plenty of people still have fond memories of Cardinal Dolan.
"He's very personable," said Monsignor Mark Rivituso. "I believe every time he meets with somebody he doesn't have anyone around who's not a friend."
The Papal is all the talk at Cure of Ars.
"It's historical. It's exciting," said 16 year-old Ben Trull.
"I was aware of Benedict XVI's conclave, but I wasn't as into it as I am this time," added 18 year-old Madeleine Trull.
Given that he spent his early years at Cure of Ars, you might expect the whole parish to be pulling for Dolan to be the next pope. But think again.
"My preference would be Malcolm Ranjith. He's from Sri Lanka," said Ben Trull.
"I would like to see Cardinal Ouellet," added Josh Trull.
But there is at least one homer at Cure of Ars.
"We're very excited in our family," said Terry Friskel. "And we think that Cardinal Dolan, well, I think that Cardinal Dolan will be the next pope."
A Shrewsbury native, Friskel is so confident in Dolan, he's already planning a spring getaway.
"We'll be in Rome in April. That's my idea."
