ST LOUIS (KSDK) - St. Louis Metropolitan Police continue to investigate the theft of an ambulance early Monday from outside a Central West End hospital.

Investigators say around 3 a.m. Monday the MedStar ambulance was taken from the parking bay outside Barnes-Jewish hospital, possibly by a woman.

Police and MedStar officials say the ambulance was located near 15th and College streets in East St. Louis just before 6 a.m.

Preliminary evaluation of the vehicle showed no damage, the keys inside, and nothing apparently taken, although an inventory will be conducted.

The victim that was transported to Barnes in the ambulance has been identified as 31-year-old Kristen M. Treat. She was a passenger inside a Pontiac Grand Prix when it collided with a bridge support pier on Route 3 near Plank Road shortly before 2 a.m.

Treat was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
