BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KSDK) - Illinois' budget shortfall means job cuts at one local school district.
On Monday night the Belleville District 201 School Board voted to lay off several teachers.
Several others are retiring at the end of the school year and will not be replaced.
"We had to lay off 3.6 full time equivalent teachers this evening we also have a number of teachers retiring at the end of the year that we're not replacing at this time," said superintendent Dr. Jeff Dosier.
Additional cuts could be made in the coming months.
