GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KSDK) -- A toy gun prompted a lockdown at a Granite City elementary school.
Granite City Assistant Chief of Police Major Jeff Connor said a parent walked his two children to Worthen Elementary School Friday morning. When they arrived, he noticed the kids brought their toy guns with them.
The parent took the guns and walked back home.
A school bus driver saw the parent with a gun and thought it was real. The driver contacted police.
Police found the parent and confirmed the guns were toys.
Police notified the school district and the lock down was lifted.
The school district is notifying parents of the incident.
