WENTZVILLE, Mo. (KSDK) - The winter weather has Wentzville firefighters overwhelmed with calls.
The reason? It's not what you might think.
"I remember when I was a kid being woken up two or three in the morning by my dad and said, go shovel our driveway and everybody else's driveway," explained Bryan Notheis, who is a firefighter and EMT in the Wentzville Fire Protection District. "It was just the thing you did."
As an adult, it's just the thing he is still doing with his fellow firefighters.
"It's a program for disabled and elderly people that can't physically do it; however, with the City of Wentzville declaring a snow emergency and Snowmagedon here, they've kind of mixed the story up a little bit that we're doing everybody, Wentzville Fire District is doing everybody's driveway," Notheis went on to say.
He said the phone lines have lit up and the Facebook requests have racked up with a total of 125 inquiries, 90 of which came from folks who are actually elderly or disabled.
"They're taking the resource and the opportunity away from people that really need it," Notheis warned.
"I think it's just keeping with Wentzville's motto of neighbors helping neighbors build a better community," added fellow resident, Jessica Oberkremer.
