Was NBC wooing Anderson Cooper as a possible replacement for embattled Today morning show anchor Matt Lauer?

Deadline.com is reporting unconfirmed information that NBC executives reached out to Cooper. Cooper is one of CNN's most popular program anchors and he also has his own syndicated daytime talk show.

But wait: The Hollywood Reporter, citing unnamed sources at NBC and in Cooper's camp, says that Cooper is not in line to replace Lauer. The sources said that they do regularly reach out to new talent, but the CNN anchor is not interested in waking up that early.

NBC executive Alexandra Wallace told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement, "As we've said before, Matt Lauer is the best in the business. We want him in the Today show anchor chair for many years to come. We are not considering replacing Matt Lauer."

Nonetheless, rumors have swirled around other possible replacements for Lauer, including Ryan Seacrest, current Today co-host Willie Geist and Meet The Press host David Gregory. And, Deadline added, Lauer has been rumored to be up for hosting Jeopardy! when Alex Trebek retires.
