PINE LAWN, Mo. (KSDK) - Former member of the Board of Alderman, Nakisha Ford, has been charged with stealing and disorderly conduct over an alleged incident Sunday in a grocery store.

It was captured on videotape.

Pine Lawn police say Ford walked into a grocery store and tore down a campaign sign promoting incumbent Mayor Sylvester Caldwell.

Police say there was a disturbance between Ford and the store owner. Ford has denied any wrongdoing.

The campaign pamphlet has "free" posted right on it, but prosecutors say it was secured to the door in the market. It was not on a pile for public consumption.

Pine Lawn officials say Ford "ripped" the sign off of private property. Pine Lawn spokesperson Lou Thimes, Jr., said Mayor Caldwell is not discussing this issue, because it is not a dispute between him and Nakisha Ford.

Ford told NewsChannel 5 the manager of the market gave her permission to remove the flyer. Employees at Pine Lawn Market would not comment on the case.

She said she believes her competition at the polls April 2, Mayor Sylvester Caldwell, is behind the arrest and slandering her campaign.

"No one should be able to take the property of someone else. We're not going to tolerate that in Pine Lawn," said Pine Lawn prosecutor, Anthony Gray.
