CARLYLE, Ill (KSDK) - An organization is asking for help removing 2,200 flags honoring a Marine killed in a training accident March 18.
The Hope for Heroes program wants volunteers to meet at the Carlyle VFW at 1250 Franklin St. at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
The flags will have been along the route leading to the cemetery where Cpl. Aaron Ripperda will be buried.
The visitation for Ripperda is at in his hometown of Highland at Meridith Funeral Home at 1223 Broadway from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m Tuesday. His funeral is Wednesday at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland at 10 a.m.
Ripperda was among seven Marines killed in a motor shell explosion.
