KIRKWOOD, Mo. (KSDK) - A national non-profit was the recipient of a $20,000 donation from Milk-Bone and grocery store chain Shop 'n Save.

Canine Assistants provides service dogs to people with disabilities, free of charge to the recipient. The organization operates solely on donations from individuals and corporations.

According to Canine Assistants, it costs upwards of $20,000 and takes approximately two years to train one service dog, so donations such as this are crucial.

Service dogs typically pick up dropped items for their humans, obtain help in the event of an emergency, and provide companionship.
