GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) - Police in a Phoenix suburb say a man fatally stabbed his wife because he feared he might have given her the AIDS virus and then also killed his adult son.

Goodyear police say 63-year-old Eugene Maraventano called 911 on Saturday to report the killings he committed several days earlier. Police say he also tried several times to kill himself but failed.

According to court documents, Maraventano killed his wife, Janet, in their bed because he feared he may have contracted HIV from prostitutes years earlier and given it to her.

He said he killed his 27-year-old son, Bryan, over concerns he was mentally disabled because he didn't have a girlfriend, couldn't get a job and played video games all day.

Court documents do not say if Maraventano is HIV positive.
