HAZELWOOD, Mo. (KSDK) - Despite all the damage and destruction, there are those amazing stories about people helping others in this time of need.

Bob Selby was in his Hazelwood home alone when the storm hit. He said initially he had no idea what was going on because he couldn't see anything, but sensed something wasn't right.

He didn't realize he was actually trapped in his home by massive trees.

"All if a sudden I start hearing the wind and it kept getting louder and louder. The next thing I know I am standing by my front door and get this massive blast of water right in my face and that's when I told myself [get] downstairs," said Selby.

That's when the storm moved through his Hazelwood neighborhood.

Bob was trapped in his home on Gerardini because it was surrounded by trees, but Bob had no idea. A massive tree consumed his backyard and destroyed his pool. His front yard was also covered by a massive tree.

"It was laying across our driveway. Our entire yard was nothing but trees it was pretty unbelievable," said Cheryl Selby, Bob's wife. She was at a meeting when the storm hit. She says she was very worried about her husband.

"I realized how much I love him and don't want to bury him," said Cheryl.

Luckily neighbors, family, and even total strangers came to help and help keeps coming.

"Ferguson, they came here and they cleared my yard up," said Bob.

Now all the Selbys have to worry about is cleaning up the mess in their backyard. In the meantime, they are just grateful for the kindness.

"People are good and they are there for you when they need them," said Cheryl.
