ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Today St. Louis moved another step closer to hosting the 2016 Olympic swimming trials. On Friday, KSDK Sports learned that Greensboro, North Carolina is out of contention leaving just St. Louis, San Antonio and Omaha still up for consideration.
Omaha has hosted the last two swimming trials.
The final decision will be announced next Saturday, April 27th.
If St. Louis is chosen, the dome would be transformed into swimming's centerpiece and could play host to superstars like Missy Franklin and Ryan Lochte.
The St. Louis Sports Commission's president says this is a big deal.
"It's a huge event for St. Louis. It's eight nights and eight nights of national TV. It's a $40 million economic impact. We would have 200,000 fans attend the event and it just ties in so beautifully with our region's Olympic legacy and it's such an exciting event," said President Frank Viverito.
