(KSDK Sports) -- When you win, the numbers just do the work for you.  The Blues (54 points) are now sitting in sixth in the Western Conference, just one point behind fifth place San Jose (55) and Los Angeles (55).  The Kings have clinched their playoff spot. The Blues are three points ahead of 7th place Minnesota.

Today the Colorado Avalanche host the Blues in the first game of a home-and-home on Sunday at the Pepsi Center in Denver.

They'd like to get a playoff spot wrapped up as soon as possible and a win against the Avalanche on Sunday would go a long way to ensuring that. They last played Friday night against the Dallas Stars used a great defensive performance to secure a 2-1 win.

Chris Stewart and Ryan Reaves scored for the Blues and Brian Elliott made 21 saves in the win. If the Blues can get back to playing their style of hockey consistently they're going to be a difficult challenge for any opponent in a seven game series come playoff time.
