St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - An animal abuse case is on Monday's docket for a bench trial before Judge Theresa Counts Burke, and it'll be up to her to examine the evidence and determine the guilt or innocence of the defendant.
That's because 23 year old Cennitra Fowler of St. Louis waived her right to a jury trial and settled for a bench trial which allows the judge to render a verdict.
Fowler is charged with animal abuse after she was arrested last October following an investigation by the city wide animal cruelty task force.
Members of that squad found one of Fowler's dogs tossed into a trash dumpster, the other was brought out of the home barely able to stand.
The dog found in the dumpster died a short time later. The second dog, adopted and named Olivia, is alive and doing well in her foster home.
