EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (KSDK) - Police are investigating after an East St. Louis pawn shop owner was shot during an attempted robbery.
East St. Louis police responded to a panic alarm at East St. Louis Jewelry and Pawn in the 200 block of Collinsville Avenue around 12 p.m. Thursday.
When officers arrived they found the owner lying on the floor, bleeding from the neck. He told officers he was shot during an attempted robbery.
It does not appear anything was taken from the store, though the staff is still taking inventory.
Chief Mike Floore says the shop owner's injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
Illinois State Police have taken over the investigation.
