ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - The president of St. Louis Community College Meramec Campus has resigned.
Chancellor Myrtle E. B. Dorsey, Ph.D. released a letter Monday stating she has accepted President George Wasson's resignation, effective immediately.
Wildwood Campus President Pam McIntyre will step in as president of Meramec while a search for a new president takes place.
Last week Chancellor Dorsey said her administration didn't act quickly enough when 19-year-old Blythe Grupe was assaulted by 18-year-old Jevon Mallory in a campus bathroom.
Mallory was arrested and released. He returned to campus five days later, was arrested again, and is still in jail.
More women then came forward to say they had also been victims of Mallory, and that not enough was done to stop him.
"I just hope they're not pinning this all on him and hoping it will all go away," said Grupe.
Chancellor Dorsey says she will meet with all STLCC personnel involved in the incident to review that safety policies and procedures were followed.
Each STLCC campus will hold a Safety Forum in the next two weeks to gather input, review procedures, and answer questions. All students are asked to attend one of the forums.
Members of the Districtwide Emergency Preparedness Team will meet with campus presidents and Chancellor Dorsey to discuss feedback gathered at the Safety Forums, and an action plan will be created and reported back to the college community.
Students are also being encouraged to sign up for the school's emergency text service, called STLCCAlert.
