WENTZVILLE, Mo. (KSDK) - A time of deep sadness for a local high school.
It was the first day back to class at Holt High School in Wentzville after a freshman was shot by his mother over the weekend according to police. His mother, Laurie Anderson, then took her own life and the 14-year-old is in critical condition.
Principal John Waters brought in extra counselors from other schools to help students cope. A banner is being hung in the cafeteria for students to write well wishes. Kids can also drop off cards to the front office and it will all be delivered to the injured teen.
"A lot of kids stopped me and wanted to know how he was doing. Mr. Waters we don't understand how could this happen and I said it's not our position to judge," said Waters.
Waters has also spoken to the family who says doctors are hopeful the teen will survive.
"I spoke to a cousin today that came in to see me. They're having the same difficulty we are trying to grasp all of this, trying to wonder all the questions one might have, how could something like this happen?" said Principal John Waters.
Principal Waters says he was not aware of any problems at home.
