BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KSDK) - The cold and rainy weather has delayed the the ripening of the strawberry crop at Eckert's Orchard in Belleville.

The family-owned orchard expects to sell strawberries in its Belleville store on May 18.  Pick-your-own strawberries are expected to be ripe around May 25.

In a typical year, strawberries ripen around Mother's Day, the second weekend of May.  Last year, the crop ripened early because of the warm spring.

Eckert's has also decided to reschedule the star of its Strawberry Festival from May 11 and 12 to May 18 and 19. The festival will also run on May 25, 26 and 27 as well as June 1 and 2.
