EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) - An East St. Louis firefighter says he's appealing his firing after his alleged refusal to take a drug test following his Texas arrest for possession of marijuana.
The city's Police and Fire Board voted to fire Khari Sharp this week.
East St. Louis Fire Chief Jason Blackmon says Sharp was ordered to take a drug test in March and never did. The union's contract requires the drug test be taken within an hour of the order being given.
The demand for the drug screening came after Sharp returned from Texas, where a state trooper allegedly found him to have marijuana and $50,000.
He's charged there with marijuana possession.
Sharp has been with the department for 10 years and says he plans to challenge his firing.
