ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KSDK) - The Interstate 70 Blanchette Bridge rehabilitation project is ahead of schedule and as a result the westbound lanes of the span will reopen to the public by late summer, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

According to Jack Wang, a MoDOT spokesman, the westbound I-70 bridge was closed November 2, 2012 and projected to stay closed for up to a year.

Ed Hassinger, MoDOT St. Louis District Engineer, said the bridge will reopen in mid-August just before the St. Charles Festival of Little Hills.

Since March, construction crews have installed approximately 2,200 pieces of steel, accounting for more than 6.5 million pounds in the truss and 1.5 million pounds of steel girders. Work crews have already started pouring the concrete bridge deck.
