ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Retailer Macy's will close its downtown St. Louis in the Railway Exchange Center later this summer.

A final closing sale will begin June 2 and last 10 weeks.

At present, 94 associates work at the downtown Macy's.  In a news release, a company spokesperson said Macy's will offer positions in nearby stores and facilities to those affected by the closure.  And eligible full-time and part-time workers who are laid off will have a severance benefit option.

The downtown St. Louis Macy's opened in 1924.

Macy's has eight other stores in the greater St. Louis metropolitan area, employing approximately 3,000 people in stores, offices, a distribution center, as well as the credit and customer service hub.

Macy's Inc. owns and operates 840 department stores (under the names Macy's and Bloomingdale's) in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico.  The company posted $1.256 billion in profits for Fiscal Year 2012, and is a member of the Fortune 500, according to Fortune magazine.
