ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - On Monday night a chapter closed for St. Elizabeth Academy in St. Louis as the final senior class graduated.

Sister Susan Borgel, the president of the Academy, says it's an emotional night, honoring her seniors and honoring her school.

"We are also celebrating the greatness of the school and its impact on the St. Louis area," said Sr. Borgel.

Valedictorian Valerie Guempl says it's weird to think she won't have an alma mater to go back to.

"I won't have a high school to come back and visit my friends will be scattered throughout St. Louis, at all different high schools," She said.

Like junior Chandler Airhehi, who is heading to Notre Dame high school next year.

"Thirty plus girls are going, like ten juniors, so we will all adapt really quickly," she said.

Sr. Borgel admits she's worried about the next generation of ladies in St. Louis.

"I think there's a gap, I think St. Elizabeth's leaves a gap and I'm hopeful that, I believe that God will find a way to fill that gap," said Sr. Borgel.

In the academy's 130 years they've educated more than 5,000 women.
