ST. CHARLES COUNTY (KSDK) - A St. Charles County man wakes up to find a naked intruder at his bedroom door, and pulls a gun.
Joseph Mahoney, 24, allegedly broke into a house on Willis Drive near St. Peters around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday. He was naked.
He allegedly came in through a back door, made his way to the bedroom door and started banging. The homeowner opened the door with his gun drawn, and then led Mahoney to his living room.
When St. Charles County deputies arrived, Mahoney was sitting on the floor partly covered in a towel mumbling incoherently.
"Not only do we not know how he got where he was. We don't know at what point he took his clothes off. We don't know why he was there. We have nothing that would give us any reason to understand what was going through his mind," said St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney Timothy Lohmar.
Deputies think Mahoney had been drinking.
Mahoney is charged with first-degree burglary, sexual misconduct, and property damage. He could face up to 17 years behind bars.
