EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (KSDK) - East St. Louis Mayor Alvin Parks has withdrawn his proposal to extend the hours of nightclubs.
Mayor Parks issued a press release Friday afternoon saying in part, "At this time, there does not appear to be fervent enough support within the community to legislate the extension."
This means nightclubs must still close at 3 a.m. on weekends, and 2 a.m. during the week.
On Thursday, community leaders announced their consideration for allowing all-hours nightclubs.
The restriction on nightclub hours started last year after pressure from police, prosecutors, and Sen. Dick Durbin. The hours restriction was put in place to make public safety easier to control.
