SUNSET HILLS, Mo. (KSDK) - Ballpark or dog park? There is controversy in sunset hills over a proposal to replace at least part of a public baseball field with a dog park.
The proposed park would serve Sunset Hills and Crestwood, and is located in the 1200 block of Eddie and Park Road.
Officials say funding would come from the St. Louis County Municipal Parks League.
A Sunset Hills alderman opposes the proposal saying it would eliminate an active ball field, but the Crestwood mayor says the proposed dog park is a good idea.
"The children in the area from Sunset Hills and the Lindbergh School District play on that field regularly, at night and on weekends. And we would like to preserve that ball field for that particular purpose," said Alderman Dr. Thoomas Musich.
"We've had multiple requests to take portions of our existing parks and fence them off and create some sort of a dog park. So when we heard that Sunset Hills was going to do something similar, to a property that is so very close to our borders, we thought that it could help fill some of the need of what our residents have asked for," said Crestwood Mayor Jeff Schlink.
Musich says the Sunset Hills Parks board is expected to meet on the proposal next week.
