JERSEYVILLE, Ill. (KSDK) - A small plane crashed Thursday morning in Jerseyville, Illinois and the pilot survived.
Sheriff Mark Kallal says a man in an experimental aircraft took off shortly after 10:30 a.m. from Jerseyville Municipal Airport in an experimental aircraft. He was headed northbound, but short after his ascent, the engine started to sputter.
The pilot, who was flying alone in the single-seat aircraft, attempted to return to the airport when the engine died, and sent the plane into a cornfield near the airport.
Medical personnel are evaluating the pilot, but he was not seriously injured.
