ST. ROBERT, Mo. (KSDK) - A 28-year-old man was arrested and charged Wednesday after allegedly stabbing a pregnant woman in a truck stop parking lot, the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department said.
According to Pulaski County Sheriff Ron Long, the incident happened that morning outside the Road Ranger Truck Stop on Highway 28. The 30-year-old pregnant victim and a male acquaintance became involved in a domestic dispute, which led to the stabbing.
The victim, who was nine months pregnant, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where the baby was delivered by cesarean section. Both the woman and her baby had to be treated for stab wounds. Long said both mother and baby are recovering.
The accused assailant, identified as Mark Downing, was arrested shortly after the incident following a brief altercation with deputies, Long said. He's being held in the Pulaski County Jail on two counts of first-degree assault on $1,000,000 bond.
