ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - The City of St. Louis followed through on its promise to replace a ragged American flag previously dedicated to fallen servicemen and women in a local cemetery.
As NewsChannel 5 reported Wednesday, Army Reservist Sgt. Francis Horton, who has served in both Iraq and Afghanistan, was walking through Old St. Marcus Park and Cemetery with his wife when he spotted the flag.
Horton contacted the American Legion post he saw etched into the flag's marker, but they had turned maintenance of the flag over to the city many years ago.
City authorities said the flag's condition was an oversight on their part and said it would be fixed by close of business Thursday.
