GILLESPIE, Ill. (KSDK) - An Illinois school district is welcoming students back despite three recent natural disasters.
Gillespie High School was hit by a tornado in late May. It marked the second time in four years a tornado had damaged a school in Gillespie.
In March 2009, Benld Elementary School was declared unsafe due to a mine collapse. Ben-Gil Elementary opened Monday. The district had been holding classes in temporary buildings while the school was under construction.
Classes began Monday in Gillespie. The district is planning a celebration on Sept. 1.
